Best browser for Mac
August 3rd, 2007I recently switched from Windows to Mac and realized that there were a couple of things that were not present in Mac. I had been using Maxthon from a long time, primarily because I had to use Microsoft Sharepoint a lot at work and Firefox didn’t render the HTML pages as nicely as Maxthon (which uses the same shell as that of IE) did.
So it was back to good old Firefox for Mac as Maxthon doesnt exist for Mac, as yet! (MS stopped developing any new versions of IE after June 2003) And yes, I did re-discover the amazing browser that Firefox is and all those amazing add-ins, scripts and other extensions! There is a plethora of browsers that exist for Mac and after reading the reviews of quite a few browsers and some googling, I was convinced that FF remains my pet!.
Here are some add-ins that I especially found to be the most useful.
1. Browser Sync : Very hand add-on in case you need to synch your passwords, bookmarks, extensions etc. across computers, lets say the one at home with your office laptop!
2. Greasemonkey : Extension that allows for some great customizations especially for Gmail and Google Reader. Scripts that I use for GMail and Reader:
-GMailTo
-GMail with different and bigger attachment icons
-GMail Saved Searches
-Google Reader Gears Search
3. Adblock Plus : Very effective in blocking popups.
4. Tab Mix Plus : An Absolute must for tabbed browsing and enhances the inbuilt tabbing behaviour of FF by leaps and bounds!
5. Google Notebook : You can ‘note’ anything just by right clicking on any webpage with this handy extension. Read the rest of this entry »
